Videoconferencing Clinical Programs
Hopkins’ physicians are available to discuss specific cases, including a particular patient’s diagnosis, available treatment options at Johns Hopkins, or follow-up after being treated at Johns Hopkins. Peripheral telemedical devices may be required to enhance the interaction among physicians. Medical records and films would be sent prior to the session, enabling physicians at Johns Hopkins to review the case background.
To request a Physician-to-Physician Patient Tele-Consultation via video conference, please contact us at projects@jhmi.edu.
The goal of surgical telementoring is to allow surgeons who are competent in basic techniques to acquire broader experience under the guidance of an expert surgeon who is not present physically. Advanced communication systems and remotely-guided robotic arms have enhanced the availability and efficacy of telementoring. Laparoscopic procedures have been completed successfully by surgeons with the assistance of expert surgeons located in another building, country or continent.
Assuming the technology is in place at the local hospital, Johns Hopkins faculty are available to telementor/teleproctor a surgery being performed.
