Physicians with The Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins --- long-ranked the top urology department in the United States --- have been pioneers in their field and were the first to perform landmark operations such as radical prostatectomy, the nerve-sparing radical retropubic prostatectomy, and minimally invasive live donor kidney removal. 

Our doctors are dedicated to providing state-of-the-art medical and surgical care in all aspects of adult and pediatric urology.  Hopkins urologists have extensive expertise in surgical techniques including minimally invasive radical prostatectomy, urologic reconstruction, laparoscopy, treatment of kidney stone disease, micro surgery for infertility, vasectomy reversal, minimally invasive techniques to treat kidney disease, treatment of urinary incontinence, hypospadius, and bladder exstrophy reconstruction. 

We have a strong program in prostate cancer, housed at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins.  Physicians at the Kimmel Cancer Center now use a computer to define prostate cancer cells mathematically under the microscope and identify the cancerous shapes at a much earlier stage of diagnosis, ensuring the best outcomes. With the radical prostatectomy or nerve-sparing surgery developed at Johns Hopkins, 50 to 70 percent of patients retain their potency and 93 percent their continence.  Patients also can receive radiation therapy, hormone therapy, chemotherapy or a combination.  Those with established metastatic prostate cancer and or at high risk of developing metastasis are offered state-of-the-art treatments, including hormonal compounds and various chemotherapeutic agents.

Urologist Louis Kavoussi  has pioneered surgical techniques such as the laparoscopic nephrectomy for cancer and for live renal transplant.

The more than 40 faculty in Urology treat patients with conditions such as prostate, bladder, kidney, testis, penile and adrenal cancers; benign prostate hypertrophy; stone disease; incontinence; and erectile dysfunction; as well as female and pediatric urological disorders.  Specialty clinics include a Center for Stone Disease, a Male Sexual Health Clinic, and a Continence Center.
